Gees Haulage is a family run business based in Wakefield, Yorkshire. They were established in 1981 and believe in the old-fashioned values of excellent service and putting their customers’ needs first.
Over the years, Gees Haulage have kept fully up-to-date with the latest technology to ensure that they remain at the leading edge of modern bespoke haulage, and now have a fleet that enables them to respond to any request a customer might make.
Gees Haulage chose the TomTom Telematics solution in December 2014. The solution is on their 58 vehicle fleet. The main factor that Gees Haulage wanted to tackle within their business was to ensure they improve the efficiency of their drivers and remain legally compliant by using the latest innovation in tachograph product; TomTom’s remaining driving time feature. This tachograph information is taken directly from the tachograph and calculates daily and weekly remaining driving time taking into consideration the driver’s fortnightly driving pattern. This information has helped Gees to become more productive by knowing the legal driving time that remains for their driver which has allowed them to plan and execute their work more effectively.
Gees also wanted to heighten the experience for their customers. The accurate tracking data has allowed them to be able to react far quicker to their clients’ needs with the traffic office being able to update customers more effectively, giving them a far better experience.
"From an operational side we use TomTom Telematics for its very accurate tracking information. We are able to provide our traffic desk and our customers with the most accurate and up to date information giving them the best service possible."
"We also use the TomTom system to obtain more detail on our drivers driving hours. This has helped us plan more effectively, ensuring we comply with EU legislation and helped prevent infringements. I simply cannot fault the system and the support from the MG Fleet team"
Graham Dyson, Operations Director at Gees Haulage
One important part for Gees Haulage choosing a new supplier was that the product had to be future proof and could grow with their business. With technology moving so quickly and it was vital that the system could integrate into Stirling Solutions transport management system if required.
If Gees decide to integrate the two systems then the day's schedule of jobs can be sent to each driver, and as soon as they accept each job, the system automatically calculates ETAs and alerts office staff. Customers can either track their order online or opt to receive email or text updates. Drivers can also capture customer signatures on the TomTom driver terminal, giving proof and time of delivery.
"Continuous driver behaviour improvement is one of the key modern challenges for greener and safer driving. We have seen vast fuel and maintenance savings by monitoring these factors. The TomTom system is continually being advanced and is able to integrate with the majority of back office systems which makes this product highly recommendable and future proof. You can clearly see the innovation from TomTom with such products as the remaining driving time feature which has proven to be very popular with existing customers running larger vehicles."
Neil Gittins, Managing Director of MG Fleet
